Lead magnet DM template
Copy-ready Instagram DM templates for delivering a free guide, checklist or template pack after a comment, in English and Hinglish, with setup steps.
Available free during Early Access. Messaging rules and technical limits apply.
When to use the lead magnet dm template
A lead magnet works when the person gets exactly what the Reel promised, quickly. The DM should name the free resource, link to it and, if you want, invite the next step. Keep the first message about the freebie, not about your paid offer.
- You give away a guide, checklist, notes, a template pack or a short video.
- You want to move people from Instagram to your site or your email list.
- Your Reel teaches something and the free resource is the natural next step.
Keyword ideas for the trigger (up to 20 per automation):
- GUIDE
- CHECKLIST
- FREE
- NOTES

Comment GUIDE and I will send the free guide to your DMs.
Say the keyword out loud in the Reel too, and write it exactly as the automation expects it.
Public reply variations
Your guide is on the way, check your DMs!
Sent! It is in your inbox now.
Done! Check your DMs for the free resource.
InboxLoop can rotate up to five public replies so the comments do not all look the same.

Flow used: Comment to DM. InboxLoop is free during Early Access, with unlimited automations.
- Host the resource on a page or a shareable link. A link button can open a PDF, a Notion page or a landing page.
- Create a Comment to DM automation and select the Reel that teaches the topic.
- Add the keywords from your caption, such as GUIDE, FREE and PDF.
- Write the DM from the templates and add the resource as a link button. You can attach one image, such as a cover preview.
- Optionally add an email request or a follow-up for people who have not opened the link, then test it.
Mistakes to avoid
- Promising a free guide and sending a sales page. Deliver the resource first.
- Putting a long list of links in the first DM. One resource and, at most, one next step.
- Not testing the link on a phone. Many viewers will open it from a mobile inbox.
- Asking for too much before delivering. If you want an email, see the email collection template.
Using an official tool does not remove the need to follow Meta's messaging rules. Read our automation safety guide before you publish.
Questions about this template
Can I send a PDF file directly?
InboxLoop DMs can include one image and up to three link buttons. Link to your PDF or a page that hosts it.
Should I ask people to follow before sending the guide?
That is optional. A follow check suits a free resource, but it adds a step. Read the follow-to-get-link template for how it works.
Can I send a reminder if they do not open it?
An optional follow-up message can go out after a delay of up to 23 hours. Use it to add something useful, not to repeat the same message.
