Follow to get the link DM template
Instagram DM templates for a follow-before-link flow: the follow request, the reminder and the message after the follow check, in English and Hinglish.
Available free during Early Access. Messaging rules and technical limits apply.
When to use the follow to get the link dm template
A follow gate asks the person to follow your account before the link arrives, then checks the follow when they confirm. It suits free resources where a follow is a fair exchange. It does not suit customers who ask about a price or an order. Note that a follow request does not guarantee follower growth.
- You give away something free, such as a guide or a template.
- Your audience already knows you and a follow is a small ask.
- You do not mind adding one step to the flow.
Keyword ideas for the trigger (up to 20 per automation):
- FOLLOW
- FREE
- GUIDE
- LINK
- SEND

Set it up in InboxLoop
Flow used: Comment to DM with a follow check. InboxLoop is free during Early Access, with unlimited automations.
- Create a Comment to DM automation and select the post or Reel.
- Add the opening message and its button, so the flow continues only after the person taps it.
- Turn on the follow check. Set the profile button text (up to 20 characters) and the confirmation button text (up to 20 characters).
- Write the main DM and add the link button that opens after the check.
- Preview and test with a second account that does not yet follow you, then again with one that does.
Mistakes to avoid
- Using a follow gate for people asking about a price or an order. It adds friction to a sale.
- Promising followers will grow. A follow request is a step in a flow, not a growth guarantee.
- Long messages. Say what to do in one line and keep the buttons short.
- Forgetting to test both outcomes: following, and not following yet.
Using an official tool does not remove the need to follow Meta's messaging rules. Read our automation safety guide before you publish.
Questions about this template
Does InboxLoop check the follow automatically?
When the person confirms, the flow checks whether the account is followed before it continues, if you turned the follow check on. It is an optional step.
Is a follow gate allowed?
The follow check works inside the conversation the person started. Your messages still need to follow Meta's messaging rules. Our automation safety guide explains what matters.
Should I use it for every automation?
No. Use it where a follow is a fair exchange, such as a free guide. Skip it for customers who just want an answer.
