Email collection DM template
Instagram DM templates to ask for an email address, handle a wrong format and say thank you, in English and Hinglish, with setup steps and consent tips.
Available free during Early Access. Messaging rules and technical limits apply.
When to use the email collection dm template
Collecting an email inside a DM works best when the person knows why you are asking and what they get. An Email Collection flow asks for the address, checks that it looks valid and stores a valid address with the contact. Messages in this flow cannot use the person's name.
- You want to build an email list from Instagram comments.
- You send a newsletter, launch updates or a free resource by email.
- You want a validated address saved with the contact, not typed into a comment.

Public reply variations

Sent! Reply in your DMs with your email.
Done! Look in your DMs or message requests.
InboxLoop can rotate up to five public replies so the comments do not all look the same.
Set it up in InboxLoop
Flow used: Email Collection. InboxLoop is free during Early Access, with unlimited automations.
- Create an Email Collection automation and choose the post or Reel.
- Add the trigger keywords, such as EMAIL and LIST.
- Write the ask, the "invalid email" message and the thank-you message. Do not use the first-name or username tokens in these messages, because they are not supported here.
- Optionally add a follow check before the ask and a follow-up after it, then publish.
- Test by sending a wrong email and a valid one from a second account, and check the contact record.
Mistakes to avoid
- Not saying why you want the email. Say what the person receives and how you will use it.
- Asking for the email before delivering anything. Where possible, deliver first or promise something specific.
- Sending marketing emails without following applicable email and privacy rules. Link your privacy policy and give an easy way to opt out.
- Using a first-name token in these messages. The builder blocks it in this flow.
Using an official tool does not remove the need to follow Meta's messaging rules. Read our automation safety guide before you publish.
Questions about this template
Does InboxLoop validate the email?
Yes. It checks that the reply looks like a valid email address, asks again if not, and stores a valid address with the contact.
Can I also collect a phone number?
A phone request is supported as an optional step, with the same rule that personalisation tokens are not available in those messages.
Where do the emails go?
They are stored with the contact in InboxLoop, where you can review them in the contact record. Review the privacy policy for how data is handled.
