A worked example
Example: a landscape photo for the feed
- A wide photo placed in a 1080 by 1350 portrait frame.
- Fill crops the sides and fills the frame. Fit keeps the whole photo and adds bars in the background colour you choose.
Pick fill for a photo with a clear subject in the middle, and fit when the whole picture matters.
The sizes in this tool
The presets are 1080 by 1350 pixels for a portrait feed post (4:5), 1080 by 1080 for a square post and 1080 by 1920 for a Story or Reel cover (9:16). Instagram can change what it recommends, so check the current guidance if you need an exact spec.
You can choose to fill the frame, which crops the image, or to fit it inside the frame with a background colour, which keeps the whole picture.
Privacy
Your image is processed locally in the browser. It is not uploaded to InboxLoop or anywhere else.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Using fill on a photo with text near the edges. The edges can be cropped.
- Resizing a small image up. It will look soft.
- Choosing square when a portrait would take more feed space.
- Forgetting that 9:16 Story and Reel covers have areas covered by the interface.
Questions about this tool
Is my photo uploaded?
No. It is resized in your browser and not sent anywhere.
What format is the download?
A PNG at the size you choose.
Which size should I use?
Portrait 4:5 takes more feed space than a square, and 9:16 is for Stories and Reels.
Does it change the quality?
It redraws the image at the chosen size. Starting from a larger, sharp image gives the best result.
Can I resize several images at once?
Not yet. Resize one image at a time.
