UTM parameters tell your analytics where a click came from. Paste your destination URL, fill in the campaign details and copy a tagged link for your bio, Story or DM button.
Your tagged link
Enter a destination URL to build the link.
Everything runs in your browser. Nothing you type or choose is saved or sent to InboxLoop.
How to use it
- Paste the full destination URL, including https://.
- Fill in source, medium and campaign. Add term or content if you need them.
- Copy the tagged link.
- Use it in your bio, Story link or DM button, then check the campaign in your analytics.
A worked example
Example: a bio link for a sale
- Destination: https://example.com/offer
- Source: instagram, medium: bio, campaign: diwali-sale
- Result: https://example.com/offer?utm_source=instagram&utm_medium=bio&utm_campaign=diwali-sale
Use the same spelling every time. Your analytics treats Instagram and instagram as different values.
What each parameter means
Source is where the click came from, such as instagram. Medium is the type of placement, such as bio, story or dm. Campaign is the name of the promotion. Term and content are optional and help you tell similar links or creatives apart.
Keep the values short, lowercase and consistent, because analytics treats Instagram and instagram as different sources.
UTM links and InboxLoop link tracking
A UTM link works with your own analytics. InboxLoop link tracking is separate: it records clicks on supported message buttons and shows total clicks, unique clickers, repeat clicks and contact history. You can use both, tracked buttons for the click history and UTM tags to see the visit in your website analytics.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Mixing capitals and lowercase. Pick lowercase and stay with it.
- Using spaces. Use hyphens or underscores in values.
- Tagging links that point inside your own site. UTM tags are for incoming links.
- Using a different medium name for every post. One name per placement is easier to report.
Questions about this tool
Do UTM links change where the link goes?
No. They add parameters to the end of the URL. The page is the same.
Which medium should I use?
Use one consistent value per placement, such as bio, story, reel or dm.
Is my URL stored?
No. The link is built in your browser and not sent anywhere.
Do I need Google Analytics?
UTM tags work with any analytics tool that reads them. Google Analytics is the most common one.
Can I use UTM links in a tracked DM button?
Yes. The tracked button records the click in InboxLoop and the UTM tags show the visit in your own analytics.
